NY Patient Travels to Boston for Care at Shriner’s with AFNE Volunteer Pilots Assistance
Please take a moment to read about Yehuda’s healthcare journey that began over 6 years ago.
When Yehuda was only 11 months old, he was severely burned in an accident. Now he is a 7-year-old boy and has been on a very long, complicated journey to recovery. The number of surgeries Yehuda has been through is countless and with each procedure, it is difficult for his family to think about his future without uncertainty and fear.
Two years ago, Yehuda’s medical team in New York highly recommended to his mom that he meet with surgeons located at Shriner’s Hospital in Boston. Long drives in the car are extremely uncomfortable for him and the price to fly via commercial airlines was cost prohibitive for his family. HIs mother learned about Angel Flight NE’s mission from a case worker at Shriners and since her first call to our mission /flight coordination team in May of 2021, we have been able to coordinate 75+ flights of hope and healing so he can receive the care he needs and deserves.
His mother recently sent this lovely note:
“As Yehuda’s family, we are trying to support him and focus on what’s happening in the present, so we can provide him with happiness, peace, and the best life experience possible. When we were told the best medical care for him is available in Boston, we were a bit overwhelmed with the thought of traveling as well as the costs associated with it. There are times that we must travel to the hospital once a week.
We are very blessed to have real angels helping us who have literally changed our lives. From our first call in 2021, they immediately responded “Please don’t worry any more about your travel.” they told us calmly, “we’re here to help you for as long and as often as you need our help.” Knowing that they could help us anytime there is a hospital visit with not only air transportation but also ground transportation provided us so much peace and assurance. There are no words to describe what a difference Angel Flight NE’s mission is making in our lives.
Recently, I’ve noticed the traveling was hard on Yehuda and I asked him what the best and easiest way for him to get to the hospital is. With no hesitation he answered me right away, “flying on a jet 😉, I love my Angel Flights!” Once, when I felt I might be overdoing it by asking for transportation too many times, I was so hesitant to call again and ask for a flight that I started apologizing to Georgie who answered my phone call. She humbly stopped me and said; “please promise me you’ll never feel hesitant to ask for help. This is the reason that we are here. There is no ‘too much’ for us and we are here for you.”
There is so much love, dedication, and warmth we feel every time we are being assisted by Angel Flight NE. When we meet the volunteer pilots, they always provide us with an outstanding level of care! We appreciate it so much! Your mission is so important for sick children, like Yehuda, and their families and the relief you are bringing to the lives of these children is enormous. Keep it up! We love you!” ~ Yehuda’s Grateful Family
We are able to transform patients’ lives – like Yehuda’s – who need to access life-saving medical care with the amazing support of our compassionate, giving volunteer pilots along with the generous & compassionate support of our volunteer pilots!
And support of individuals, like you, is also vital to ensuring distance is never an obstacle for patients and families in need.
Together we are making the “Impossible, Possible” for patients and families in need of accessing life-saving medical care.
As with all of our patients, Yehuda will always have a place in our heart and will remain a part of the Angel Flight NE extended family. We assured his mom that we are here during his healthcare journey for as long and as often as he needs our assistance to access the vital care and treatment he needs during his continued healthcare journey.
Mission/Flight requests – like Yehuda’s – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives. We are here for her for as long and as often as he needs our help and to ensure the best possible outcome. Please keep Yehuda along with all of our patients in your thoughts and prayers.
We are proudly celebrating our 27th year of service having scheduled over 108,000 flights for patients who have traveled more than 15 million miles to 750+ medical facilities throughout the United States since our founding in 1996.
Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission.
With your help, we can ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Susan and the thousands of others we assist yearly.
Warmest regards,
Fr. Larry & the AFNE Staff
