Maine Patient Provided Air & Ground Transport to Boston by AFNE
Partnership and Coordination for Patients
I would like you to meet Roger P. & his wife Cindy – a delightful couple from Limestone, ME – a town 20 miles from Presque Isle Airport. Presque Isle averages 95 inches of snow per year, in comparison to the US average of 28! As you can imagine, this heavy snowfall and cold temperature often create quite a challenge for both patients like Roger seeking proper medical care and our amazing volunteer pilots who fly them.
Roger was recently diagnosed with a rare type of Cancer best treated at Dana Farber in Boston. Fortunately, Dana Farber encouraged him to contact Angel Flight NE for transportation support. As soon as Roger’s appointments were solidified – our mission /flight coordination team got to work!
Watching the weather closely, mission Coordination decided it was best to fly him the day before his appointment. We were able to secure overnight hotel accommodations through Maine Cancer Foundation who supports our mission so we can support patients from Maine living with Cancer. We were able to get them to Boston and back to Maine with the support of our amazing volunteer pilots Peter S. (based at LWM) & Richard (based at TAN – who you may remember from his last-minute help with Father Eddy featured in our Thankful Thursday in January).
Angel Flight NE Earth Angel Volunteer – Rod
The amazing Rod F. – Angel Flight NE Earth Angel Volunteer for nearly 20 years – provided rides to and from the airport in addition to rides to the actual appointment! Rod’s commitment to our mission was recognized by the Patriots Foundation in 2018 when he was recognized as a Difference Maker of the Week for his outstanding volunteering!
We are always so grateful to our Volunteer Pilots & Earth Angels for generously donating their time, fuel, planes and compassion. In addition, support from foundations and grants like that from the Maine Cancer Foundation ensures that we can support patients in the air as well as on the ground.
As with all of our patients, Roger and his wife Cindy are forever a part of our Angel Flight NE family. Mission/Flight requests – like Roger’s – happen daily and we are privileged to have the opportunity to not only fly but deeply care for all who turn to us for help at difficult times in their lives. As with all of our patients, we are here for Roger for as long and as often as he needs our help and to ensure the best possible outcome.
Thank You and God Bless You for your support and belief in our healing mission. With your help and belief in our mission, we are able to ensure that distance is never an obstacle for patients, like Roger.
Warmest regards,
Fr. Larry & the AFNE Staff
