Thankful Thursday~ Celebrating 23 Years of Dedication: Rod F., AFNE’s Earth Angel

For over 23 incredible years, Rod F. has been a beacon of kindness, dedication, and unwavering support as one of Angel Flight NE’s cherished Earth Angels.

As a volunteer driver, Rod has gone above and beyond to ensure that patients in need of life-saving medical care can travel without the added stress of transportation logistics. Whether it’s a short ride across town or a trip to a distant destination, Rod’s response is always the same: “Put me down.” His readiness to help, no matter the circumstances, has made him an irreplaceable part of the Angel Flight NE family.

The Magic of Rod’s Rides

Patients who have ridden with Rod often share glowing reviews of their experiences. His warm personality and genuine care transform every trip into more than just transportation—it becomes a memorable journey. Known for his Boston “history lessons” and spontaneous “tours,” Rod’s rides are filled with stories, laughter, and a personal touch that leaves a lasting impression.

Some patients are so fond of Rod that they specifically request him for their rides, knowing they’ll be greeted with a friendly smile and the reassurance that they are in good hands.

A Model of Selflessness

Rod’s patience and reliability shine through in everything he does. Even during unexpected delays, he waits without complaint, always putting the needs of the patients first. His selflessness and compassion exemplify the true spirit of an Angel Flight NE Earth Angel, and his contributions have made a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals.

A Heartfelt Thank You

AFNE Patients Candace & Dwight J. shared the following beautiful quote:

Rod has been our earth angle/driver since 2018 (can’t begin to count the times he’s been our driver). Rod is always punctual and waiting for us at the airport. He never seems to be in a hurry and is so kind and helpful. He grabs our bags, asks if we need a bathroom break before heading to our destination, and has the car waiting by the nearest door. He goes out of his way to accommodate Dwight’s needs by taking us to appointments that are out of his way, and waiting for us before heading into Boston for other appointments. Also, when in route to Boston, Rod provides a detailed commentary about the history of all the buildings and renovations along the way. It’s like a history lesson that we thoroughly enjoy and have learned from. Rod is definitely one of a kind! He has a huge heart, knows his way around the city, has an immense knowledge of Boston’s history, has an awesome personality, and strives to accommodate our needs. We have truly been blessed!

Rod, we are endlessly grateful for your 23 years of service, your kindness, and your tireless efforts to support our mission. You remind us all of the incredible impact one person can have, and we are honored to have you as part of the Angel Flight NE family.
